Drive Sober Labor Day 2024

OFFICIAL NEWS RELEASE
For Immediate Release

Belle Chasse, LA - Sheriff Jerry Turlich announces the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office is currently participating in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign through Labor Day, September 2, 2024.

Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over is a national high-visibility enforcement campaign that runs during specific times of the year. This campaign focuses on the consequences of drunk driving and is supported by increased law enforcement. Every day, about 37 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes - that's one person every 39 minutes. In 2022, 13,524 people died in alcohol-impaired driving traffic deaths. These deaths were all preventable.

Let's work together to have a safe and happy Labor Day holiday. Plan your safe ride home before you start the party, choose a non-drinking friend as a designated driver. If you drink, do not drive for any reason. Call a taxi, a ride-hailing service, or a sober friend. If you're hosting a party where alcohol will be served, make sure all guests leave with a sober driver. Always wear your seat belt - it's your best defense against impaired drivers.
