Located in southeastern Louisiana, Plaquemines Parish is south of the New Orleans metropolitan area and stretches approximately 80 miles to the mouth of the mighty Mississippi River. Covering over 2,567 square miles on the east and west bank of the river with a population over 23,000 residents, PPSO utilizes the Criminal Patrol Division, Marine Division and Aviation Unit to effectively provide assistance and enforce Louisiana law.
Under the guidance of Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich, Jr., the brave men and women of PPSO bolsters a strong partnership with their citizens evident by record low crime rates and a high solvability percentage. With programs such as the Citizensโ Police Academy, Seniors And Law-Enforcement Together (SALT), Junior Deputies and Young Marines Program, PPSO is dedicated to strengthening and continually improving this relationship in an effort to maintain this high quality of life for our community.
