For Immediate Release

On Tuesday, November 19, 2019, Sheriff Gerald A. Turlich Jr. and the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office (PPSO) Training Division hosted Non-Emergency Call Handling training for dispatchers in Belle Chasse.

During the training, the students learned how to respond to citizens and deliver excellent customer service over the telephone using courtesy, confidence and concern while emphasizing how to put active listening skills to work on every call received. In attendance were twenty-two dispatchers/operators representing eight different agencies from across Louisiana (Bossier, Iberville, Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parish Sheriff's Offices along with the Gretna, Orleans Levee District and Thibodaux Police Departments and Plaquemines Parish Government).

"How dispatchers and operators initially respond to citizens is crucial in obtaining the pertinent information and relaying it to responding units in a timely manner," said Sheriff Turlich. "This class has enhanced the preparation of our team that will ultimately allow us to professionally interact to all types of calls from our community."

This was the fourth dispatcher training class this year that the PPSO hosted in conjunction with PowerPhone, the US Attorney's Office - Eastern District of Louisiana and the Regional Organized Crime Information Center.
