Belle Chasse, LA - The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office (PPSO) is teaming up with the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission (LHSC) for the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Buckle Up in Your Truck high-visibility seat belt awareness campaign. From April 22 to April 29, the law enforcement community will be working together to reduce the number of fatalities that occur when vehicle passengers fail to buckle up.
Many Americans understand the lifesaving value of the seat belt - the national use rate was at 91.6% in 2022. Seat belt use in passenger vehicles saved an estimated 14,955 lives in 2017. Understand the potentially fatal consequences of not wearing a seat belt and learn what you can do to make sure you and your family are properly buckled up every time.
"Make sure to buckle up and assure all your passengers are properly restrained, especially young children," said Sheriff Turlich. "Unfortunately, accidents happen, so let's do everything possible to protect yourself and anyone riding with you. Please buckle up!"
